ABOUT THE COLLEGE NSS UNITS
K.D.College of Commerce was established in the heart of the Midnapore town for imparting commerce education in 1961 under Calcutta University. With the establishment of the Vidyasagar University in 1987, the affiliation of the college was automatically shifted. V.U. extended its permission to establish NSS Unit-I, In 1995, V.U. extended further permission to establish Unit-II. To accommodate the gradually increasing number of students, the university extended permission to establish Unit-III & Unit-IV. The College provided a separate room with computer facilities for housing the office for the N.S.S. units from the session 2014-2015.Throughout the year, four N.S.S units organize and participate in various awareness activities as well as community development programmes.
Both Normal and Special Camping activities are undertaken regularly as per NSS calendar prepared by Vidyasagar University from time to time and followed the Annual Action Plan approved by NSS Advisory Committee of the college. Some special activities are undertaken continuously throughout the year by the student volunteers of NSS Units i.e. maintaining and developing the Medical plantation garden in the college campus, organizing Free Coaching Class for financially Backward Classes in the local ward, Organising Campus cleaning and Beautification Programmeetc.Urgent activities are undertaken in times of natural Calamities or disasters and social demands i.e. Flood, Earth Quake etc. Special Camping programmes are theme-oriented and are organized generally on various developmental issues of national importance. In the past, the theme of the Special Camping Programmes had been ‘Healthy Youth for Healthy India’, ‘Youth for Rural Reconstruction’, Youth for Mass Literacy’, ‘Youth for National Integration and Social Harmony’, Youth for Sustainable Development’, ‘Save Girls, save Nation’, The current theme of Special camp of this year was ‘Swachh Bharat Abhijan’. Every year fifty volunteers of each NSS unit participate in special camps which is of seven days duration.
Besides these programmes, some leading volunteers are being selected and sent each year to take part in programmes organized at State as well as the national level. Republic Day Parade, National Integration Camp, National Youth Festival, Digital India etc. are such programmes in which our volunteers take part regularly.
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL
In 2015, I have taken charge of this college as the Principal; I observe that our college is having four N.S.S. Units under Vidyasagar University. These Units contribute to varied societal objectives with their splendid performance. I am really inspired by the dynamic attitudes and zeal of the Programme Officers and enthusiastic volunteers of the N.S.S. Units to achieve the mission, vision and objectives of the N.S.S. Programme in true sense. I am also proud of the teachers and non-teaching staffs for their tenacity and positive sense of accomplishment of social responsibilities.
I believe that N.S.S. units will help our students to inculcate devotion with sense of inflexible fortitude for the betterment and welfare of mankind at large so that each of them becomes a responsible citizen of future India
