Women’s Study Cell of K. D. College of Commerce & General Studies, Midapore started functioning on and from 27.11.2006 under the guidance of the then Principal Dr. Dilip Kumar Neogi. Since then it has been working to generate awareness among female students, mainly belonging to backward classes. Initially, the Cell was concentrating in creating awareness among the target group. Afterwards it arranged some outreach programmes considering the needs of the society. In 2011, it arranged a state level seminar in collaboration with the Department of Economics for social mobilization of poor backward class women. In slum areas of the town Women’s Study Cell worked with N.S.S units and arranged a medical camp for women and child during 2011-12 and 2012-13 sessions. During 2012-13, Women’s Study Cell organized ‘Social Awareness and Self Defense camp’ for women. During 2013-14, a self defense programme was organized for girl student in special winter camp of N.S.S. A Thalassaemia awareness and detection camp was arranged by Women’s Study Cell and Career Counseling Cell on 31.07. 2015. Women Study Centre organized a medical check-up and health awareness programme involving the rural women in Phoolpahari near Khairulla chak, at the outskirt of Midnopore town on 17.09.15. During 2016-17, a self defense programme was organized for the current female students of the college. During the session 2017-18, awareness programme on “Crime against Women (Eve teasing)” was organised. The programme was jointly organized by Women’s Study Cell, K.D. College of Commerce and General Studies and Department of Geography, Vidyasagar University. In midst of World wide pandemic Covid 19, Women’s Study Cell of our college organized an One Day State Level Webinar on “ Gender Inequality in India: An in-depth Analysis” on 25th June, 2021. Eminent Resource person, Prof. Dr. Purnendu Sekhar Das, Retired Professor of Vidyasagar University & VGSOM, IIT, Kharagpur gave his enlightened and valuable lecture on the aforesaid topic. It is also important to mention that an awareness programme on Women’s Gynaecological Health regarding PCOD, PCOS and others had been held by Women’s Study Cell of our college with the help of famous Albert David Medicine company. Renowned Gynaecologist of Midnapore town, Dr. Anju Ghosh Mohata was the chief speaker of the aforesaid programme and she beautifully delivered her speech regarding awareness of various types of Women gynaecological problems. Respected Principal sir of our college, Dr. Dulal Chandra Das inaugurated the programme.
