One of the most important Arts Department of this college is Bengali Department. Before 2007, Bengali subject was only a compulsory subject of Commerce Department. Because then the college was functioning as a Commerce College. But in 2007, this situation has changed and the College was not only considered as a Commerce College but got its reputation as a college of other Arts Departments and the name of the College was changed to K.D College of Commerce and General Studies. After the introduction of Honours and General Subjects in Bengali in 2007, the number of students in the college increased significantly. At that time, Dr. Kartik Chandra Pramanik and Sudipta Choudhury were the professors of the Bengali  Department . In 2009, Prof. Oindrila Dey joined this Department as a part-time teacher. Subsequently, Dr.Ajoy Dalai , Dr.Avishek Roy, Dr. Sabbir Hossain,Dr.Shipra Bhattacharya and Gopal Ghosh joined the Bengali Department as part-time teachers and guest teachers respectively. In 2017 Jui Debnath joined the Bengali department as a full time professor . In 2020, Dr. Sanjib Kumar Ghosh joined this Department as a full time professor after Jui Debnath  transferred to another college. In 2020, part time professors were approved as SACT by the Department of Education, Government of West Bengal. Among them, Dr. Sabbir Hossain and Prof. Oindrila Dey have performed their duties as two SACT teachers of the Bengali Department. At present  Dr. Sudipta Choudhury and Dr. Sanjib Kumar Ghosh are working as full time professors and Dr. Sabbir Hossain is working as SACT teacher. 
The journey of Bengali Department started with only 34 students in Honours  and 40 students in General Department. Today, that number has increased tremendously. At present there are about hundred students in Honours and more than 300 students studying Bengali in General Department in 1st Semester .   The professors of the Bengali Department are constantly devoting themselves to building a fair future for the students by following the syllabus selected by the UGC and following the internal examination system and other Co-curricular activities . Every year the students of Bengali Department pass their final exams with great success and most of the students go on for higher studies.
