The present K. D. College of Commerce and General Studies, Midnapore began its pristine journey on 10th August, 1961 as 'College of Commerce', solely imparting Commerce education with English as a compulsory subject, taught both in the Higher Secondary and the Degree Level, and was ably steered by Prof. Kali Pada Panda and Prof. Ajit Kumar Masanta for quite a long time. But with the passage of time, responding to the need of the student community, the college went for opening up of Arts Stream, initially with Bengali Honours in 2007-2008 and subsequently Honours in English from the academic session 2009-2010 with the intake capacity of 40 no. of students. With no full-time permanent teacher in the year of its inception, the college authority, with unbound enthusiasm, took all the pain to run the course smoothly with guest teachers, invited from the nearby colleges, and renowned retired professors. Furthermore, the relentless endeavour on the part of the college authority was rewarded the very next year when the Government appointed two full-time permanent teachers who joined in April, 2010 and have been continuing since then. Presently, the Department runs with three full-time permanent teachers and four state-aided college teachers and strives its best to cater to the need of the students and the institution as well.
