The Department of Political Science was established in 2007 with the purpose of imparting basic knowledge about Political Science to the students of Arts Department. Since its inception, a government approved part-time teacher (currently State Aided College Teacher) has serves the department with the support of various other temporary teachers. Currently one full time professor has joined the department. In the initial phase, the number of students in this department was close to 80, but later on, the number of students has increased to around 1,000. As a college in semi-urban areas, special attention is paid to the students so that they can be closely related to various fields of political science like political philosophy, Indian political thought and political system, international relations, globalization and public administration etc. In line with the new educational policy, the students are also trained in political research to familiarize them with political values , democratic awareness and how to apply them in real life. They are guided with professional aim so that they can crack various competitive exams like UPSC, NET, SET, WBPSC, SSC and so on. Adequate text books are available for the students as per syllabus. National and international seminars and special lectures on various topics are organized in the department to increased the knowledge and skills of the students. The department has been actively participating in the Youth Parliament Competition organized by the State Government for a long time and they have won various awards at various times. At present as per NEP, students of not only arts but also commerce and science students are getting opportunity to study political science.
